Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is the remastered PC edition of Sleeping Dogs, one of the latest sandbox games that came out for PS3 and 360.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition includes the same adventure as the original title, but with improved graphics, retouched gameplay and integration of all the expansions (Nightmare in North Point, Zodiac Tournament, Year of the Snake...)
SD: Definitive Edition is a good alternative if you're anxiously looking forwards to Sleeping Dogs 2 or the imminent online spinoff, Triad Wars.
Be the star of your own Chinese action film
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is an action adventure in an open world, in the style of GTA 5 and company. It takes place in current Hong Kong. You'll be controlling Wei Shen, a policeman who infiltrates as a double agent in a triad (Chinese mafia).
The content is the same as in Sleeping Dogs. You'll have to complete missions that will demand a good management of Wei's main skills: parkour, fighting, shooting and driving. In this sense, Sleeping Dogs borrows the best from each house: Grand Theft Auto, Batman Arkham City, and even a bit of Assasin's Creed Unity. And let's not forget that you have an open world full of secondary missions and other activities.
Put this way, you may think that Sleeping Dogs is a clone of many games. This title manages to distance itself from its sources, since it makes you feel like the protagonist of a Hong Kong action movie. The setting, all the options you have to be brutal during the hand to hand fights, the shooting in alleys... Besides, Sleeping Dogs doesn't have one thousand secondary missions, but the ones it does have are outstanding in terms of quality and variety.
If the base content is the same in both versions, why should you be interested in downloading Definitive Edition?
Is it really the definitive edition?
The graphic enhancement is the great star of Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition. The new lighting, the character models and the updated textures, the new elements such as smoke, reflections... the more intense traffic, the variety of pedestrians walking around Hong Kong... the full set of improvements makes the city more organic.
The controls have been slightly retouched, both for the mouse+keyboard and game controller configurations. They are very small changes, but, since they point to traditional commands, are easier to learn and master than they were before. Besides, the interface has improved: now it's less intrusive and has a better design.
The DLC have been coherently integrated into the content. For example: don't expect to get the best weapons only a few hours after you start playing. Finally, some missions or activities have been retouched to make the best of their strong aspects and leave the weak aspects behind.
A rival worthy of the GTA 5 saga
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition is, therefore, the icing on a cake that was already delicious. The improved graphics enhance the feeling that you're the hero of a Chinese fighting movie, while slight improvements here and there speed up the game rhythm. If you rejected the original version thinking that it was a GTA 5 clone, your second chance is now here.
